Prenatal and postnatal care, pelvic-floor rehabilitation, diastasis recti recovery, and menopausal-health guidance — in a private, respectful setting.
Overview
Women's health physiotherapy covers a set of conditions many patients hesitate to bring up in general clinics — pelvic-floor weakness, urinary incontinence, painful intercourse, diastasis recti after pregnancy, prolapse, and menopausal joint pain. Our women's health service is delivered by a female physiotherapist in a private treatment room, with time set aside for questions.
We support women through pregnancy and after delivery — safe exercise in each trimester, pelvic-girdle pain management, birth preparation, and structured postnatal recovery including diastasis recti and pelvic-floor rehabilitation. We also work with women through and after menopause, when joint pain, weight change, and bone-density changes make a structured exercise plan especially valuable.
Every plan is conservative, evidence-based, and paced to your comfort. We never rush an assessment, and we never treat internally without informed consent and, if you prefer, a chaperone.
Conditions we treat
Each condition below links to a detailed guide with symptoms, evidence-based treatment, and a typical recovery timeline.
Treatment approaches
External assessment first; internal assessment offered only with informed consent when it will change treatment.
Building a safe return to lifting and exercise after pregnancy, C-section, or diastasis recti.
Structured programs with a diary and clear behavioural targets — often as effective as medication for mild-to-moderate incontinence.
Trimester-safe strengthening and menopause-focused bone-loading, individually prescribed.

Vellore context
CMC Vellore has excellent obstetric and gynaecology services. Many women deliver at CMC and want structured postnatal support close by — our flagship centre is a short drive from the hospital and offers early-morning slots that fit around infant feeds.
Cultural sensitivity matters. Our women's health service is delivered by a female therapist, treatment rooms are private with a curtained changing area, and family members are welcome in the room if you prefer.
We keep women's health slots in blocks so the waiting area is quieter and appointments do not overlap. If you would prefer the first or last slot of the day, please ask when booking.
For breastfeeding mothers, we have a private feeding area and are happy for you to bring your infant to the session.
Our approach is progressive, not punitive. Post-pregnancy bodies do not need to be 'fixed' — they need patient, structured support, and honest information.
Privacy and consent: all women's health sessions are one-on-one with a female physiotherapist in a private treatment room. Internal assessment is offered only with informed consent when it will change treatment; many patients make good progress with external assessment alone.
Cultural sensitivity: family members are welcome in the room if you prefer, and clothing preferences are respected throughout the assessment. We keep women's health slots in blocks so the waiting area is quieter.
Postnatal pacing: postnatal recovery is not a race. We build a plan that respects sleep debt, breastfeeding demands, and the reality of caring for a newborn. Small, consistent sessions beat ambitious ones that cannot be maintained.
Menopausal health: progressive strength training and bone-loading exercise are the most evidence-based interventions for menopausal musculoskeletal health. We build these into a sustainable weekly plan that fits alongside work and family responsibilities.
Evidence base in brief: supervised pelvic-floor muscle training is first-line evidence-based treatment for stress and mixed urinary incontinence in women, often as effective as medication. Progressive strength and bone-loading exercise is the strongest lifestyle intervention for menopausal bone and joint health.
Confidentiality: intake forms and session notes are stored securely and are shared only with your explicit consent. Many patients ask that no information be shared with the referring doctor without their prior approval — we respect this.
Red-flag surveillance: unexpected vaginal bleeding, new pelvic pain in pregnancy, or symptoms suggestive of infection are escalated to your obstetrician or gynaecologist the same day.
Postnatal support: we hold dedicated postnatal slots in mid-morning to fit around infant feeds, and provide a private feeding area if you need to bring your baby to the session.
Diastasis recti assessment: we measure the inter-recti distance at multiple abdominal levels at intake and every four weeks. Progress is usually visible by six to eight weeks of consistent core-pressure-management work, and most cases close to within one finger-width by twelve to sixteen weeks.
Return-to-running after pregnancy: we use published postnatal return-to-running criteria — pain-free walking for 30 minutes, single-leg squat quality, single-leg calf raise capacity, and pelvic-floor symptom check — before clearing you to progress from walk-jog intervals to sustained running.
Menopause exercise dose: current guidelines recommend at least two strength sessions per week, weight-bearing exercise most days, and balance work for older women. We build a weekly template that fits your schedule and progresses over twelve weeks.
