Sports Injury Rehab in Vellore

Return-to-play rehabilitation for cricketers, runners, footballers, kabaddi players, and gym athletes — with load monitoring and objective testing.

Overview

What is Sports Injury Rehab?

Sports injuries are load problems. Either the tissue was not ready for the load applied (an acute event), or it has been overloaded over weeks (an overuse pattern). Our rehab model treats both — we settle symptoms, rebuild capacity, and only clear you to return to play when objective tests match the demand of your sport.

We work with cricketers who train on the IIT-M / VIT grounds, runners who use the Muthu Mandapam and Katpadi Road stretches, kabaddi players from the local leagues, badminton and TT players from VIT and Voorhees, and school athletes from Ida Scudder, Auxilium, and Sherwood. Recreational gym-goers from Katpadi and Sathuvachari make up a large part of our shoulder and low-back caseload.

Every athlete gets an assessment that includes movement screening, joint-specific tests, and — where relevant — hop tests, dynamometer strength testing, and sport-specific drills. The plan is a build, not a rest note. We keep you doing as much as your tissue can safely handle from day one.

Treatment approaches

How we treat

Progressive loading

Structured week-on-week increases in load, volume, and intensity — the safest way to rebuild tendon and muscle capacity.

Sport-specific drills

Cutting, pivoting, throwing, sprinting, or bowling drills built into the last third of every session.

Manual therapy for symptom control

Used selectively in the first 2–3 weeks so the athlete can tolerate the loading program.

Return-to-play testing

Hop tests, isokinetic strength, single-leg squat quality, and sport-specific timings before clearing you to compete.

Your first visit

What to expect on day one

  1. Step 1. Sport, position, training load, and season timing captured in the first 5 minutes.
  2. Step 2. Movement screen and joint-specific tests (about 30 minutes).
  3. Step 3. Return-to-play timeline explained in weeks, with weekly milestones.
  4. Step 4. First loading session and pain-monitoring rules.
  5. Step 5. Home program via WhatsApp with video demonstrations of each exercise.

Vellore context

Why patients in Vellore choose our clinic

Vellore has a lively sports culture — cricket on the IIT-Madras Vellore campus and VIT grounds, athletics tracks at VIT and Voorhees, growing kabaddi leagues in Katpadi and Ranipet, and school-level football and basketball across Ida Scudder, Auxilium, and Sherwood. We see injuries from all of these settings and understand what a realistic training load looks like in this heat.

For CMC Vellore staff and VIT researchers who lift or run recreationally, we build programs that fit around shift work and lab schedules. Early-morning slots are available at the flagship centre for pre-work sessions.

We keep training data. Weekly volume, session RPE, sleep, and pain scores go into a simple spreadsheet you fill in on WhatsApp. That data is what lets us tell whether an increase is safe or whether we should hold for a week.

For team sports, we can plan around match calendars — light weeks after a match, load weeks in the training block, and reduced volume the week of a tournament. For endurance runners preparing for a race, we align rehab with mesocycles rather than working session-to-session.

Recreational athletes often ask whether they should get an MRI. The answer is usually 'not yet' — imaging is most useful when a decision hinges on it. We tell you honestly when imaging will change management and when it will not.

Load monitoring: we use a simple weekly training-log that captures volume, intensity, RPE, sleep, and pain. This spreadsheet lives on WhatsApp, takes two minutes to fill in, and is what lets us decide whether a load increase is safe or whether we hold for another week.

Objective testing: return-to-play decisions are guided by numbers, not by how the athlete feels on the day. We use single-leg hop tests (single, triple, cross-over), isokinetic or hand-held dynamometer strength testing where available, and sport-specific timed drills.

Season planning: for team athletes we plan around match calendars — light weeks after a match, load weeks in the pre-season block, and tapered volume in the week of a tournament. For endurance athletes we align rehab with mesocycles and race dates.

Working with coaches and S&C: with athlete consent we share load guidance directly with the coach, S&C, or team medical staff so training and rehab pull in the same direction. This alignment is often the difference between a clean return and a re-injury within weeks.

Evidence base in brief: for acute muscle injuries, early progressive loading (rather than prolonged rest) is associated with faster and safer return to play. For tendon injuries, isometric and heavy-slow-resistance loading protocols outperform passive treatment. Our loading progressions reflect these findings.

Insurance and receipts: sports rehab sessions are provided with GST-compliant invoices and ICD codes accepted for reimbursement by most Indian health insurers, including major TPAs commonly used by IT and manufacturing employers in Ranipet and Vellore.

Red-flag surveillance: red-hot swollen joints, calf pain with breathlessness (possible DVT), or sudden loss of function in an athlete are not treated with exercise. We escalate the same day to the appropriate specialist.

Working with youth athletes: for under-16 athletes we involve parents in every session and are conservative with load progressions. Growing bodies tolerate load differently and rehab plans need to respect growth plates and skeletal maturity.
