Speech, Language & Swallowing Therapy in Vellore

Speech therapy addresses how you speak, understand, use language and swallow. It supports adults recovering from stroke, brain injury, Parkinson's disease and head-and-neck cancer, and children with speech-sound delays, language delays, stammering, autism-related communication difficulties and cleft-palate speech.

At Dr. Karolin Rockson PT our licensed speech-language pathologists (BASLP/MASLP-trained, RCI-registered) work in Tamil, English and Telugu, coordinated with occupational therapy and physiotherapy so multi-domain patients — like children with cerebral palsy or adults post-stroke — see one joined-up team.

Every plan starts with a structured assessment (speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing) and finishes with clear goals, session cadence and a home programme parents or partners can carry through the week.

Speech-language services are scarce outside Chennai and Bangalore. CMC Vellore has a strong SLP department but wait times are long — our clinic offers TN-registered SLPs with Tamil-language sessions and evening slots for working families.

For rural families travelling from Tirupattur, Gudiyatham, Ambur and Vaniyambadi, we combine an intensive block (5 sessions in one week) with WhatsApp video follow-ups to reduce travel burden.

Adult conditions we regularly treat: post-stroke aphasia (Broca's, Wernicke's, global, anomic), post-stroke dysarthria, Parkinson's-related hypokinetic dysarthria (LSVT-LOUD-style intensive), head-and-neck cancer voice/swallow rehab, and TBI cognitive-communication issues.

Paediatric conditions: speech-sound disorders (articulation and phonological), late-talking toddlers, expressive/receptive language delay, cleft-palate speech, autism-related pragmatic language and AAC, cerebral palsy dysarthria, and childhood apraxia of speech.

Dysphagia (swallowing) management follows international IDDSI standards for texture-modified diets. We coordinate with dietitians for calorie and hydration planning, especially for post-stroke and post-radiotherapy patients.

AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) — we assess and prescribe low-tech (picture-exchange boards) and high-tech (tablet-based apps) AAC for children and adults who cannot rely on speech for communication.

Parent and partner coaching: 15 minutes of every paediatric session and 10 minutes of every adult session is dedicated to teaching the family how to carry therapy into daily life. Take-home audio recordings are provided in Tamil where useful.

Home visits are available for post-stroke and bed-bound patients across central Vellore, Katpadi, Sathuvachari and Bagayam. For rural families, intensive week-long blocks with WhatsApp follow-ups reduce travel.

Evidence-based cadence: acute post-stroke aphasia benefits from 5+ hours/week for the first 3 months; paediatric articulation typically responds to 2 sessions/week for 8–12 weeks; stammering therapy is usually 6–8 week blocks with maintenance.

We do not recommend or use therapies with weak or absent evidence (auditory integration training, chelation, and similar). If a family has tried these elsewhere we discuss the evidence honestly without dismissing their concern.
