Rotator Cuff Tear Treatment in Vellore

Weakness lifting the arm sideways, night pain on the shoulder, and a catch when reaching overhead — often after a fall or heavy lift.

Rotator cuff tears range from partial-thickness fraying to full-thickness ruptures. Most non-retracted tears respond well to a 12-week loading programme; surgery is reserved for large tears in active patients or persistent weakness.

Symptoms we look for

  • Pain on the outer shoulder, worse at night
  • Weakness lifting or rotating the arm
  • Painful arc between 60° and 120° of elevation
  • Clicking or catching sensation

Benefits

  • Progressive loading over 12 weeks
  • Posture correction
  • Ice after activity

Trade-offs

  • Overhead lifts in the first 6 weeks
  • Sleeping on the affected side
  • Stretching that provokes sharp pain
Home care

What you can do today

Rotator Cuff Tear — first-line home care

  1. 1

    Pendulum swings

Lean forward, let the arm hang, and swing gently for 60 seconds — twice a day.

  2. 2

    Isometric holds

Press the fist into a wall (front, side, back) for 5 seconds x 10 reps, keeping the elbow tucked.

  3. 3

    Scapular squeezes

Draw shoulder blades down and back, hold 5 seconds x 15 reps to unload the cuff.

  4. 4

    Sleep support

Lie on the unaffected side with a pillow hugging the sore arm to keep it neutral.

FAQ

Common questions about rotator cuff tear

Most partial and small full-thickness tears heal functionally with 3 months of loaded rehab. Surgery is considered for large, retracted tears in active patients or if weakness persists after rehab.
